The first painting in a future series I plan to continue...
This painting depicts a little girl who was expecting a sibling, but instead experienced loss due to complications (ribbon). This experience lead her on a journey to become a midwife to help future mothers giving birth.
I name the series “The Butterfly Effect” to reflect the idea of how a past incident can make a big impact on the future and the butterflies in the painting are for the audience to follow this little girl’s journey.
This painting was also an attempt to shed light on the high mortality rate of black women giving birth in this country and acknowledging those who take it upon themselves to help expecting mothers have a safe and healthy pregnancy.
